Simple tips
There are many simple and inexpensive ways to make daily life easier and safer. These tips come from the Parkinson's Association of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. These common sense ideas can be used by just about anyone, regardless of illness. Most of these items can be found in discount stores and pharmacies: Use soap on a rope in the shower or tub. |
Try long-handled sponges to reach the back, lower legs and feet. They help minimize the risk of loss of balance. Wash mitts also are useful in the shower, especially for people who have trouble gripping objects. |
Use an electric razor instead of a disposable or cartridge razor. They are easier to grip and decrease the risk of injury. |
In the kitchen, move pots, pans, dishes and utensils onto the counter so they are easily reached. |
Take advantage of electric can openers, jar openers, scissors and pot stabilizers. |
Use a telephone with large push-buttons for easier dialing. |
