Food Choices for Weight Loss

Food Choices for Weight Loss

Transcript

  • Make healthy food choices to help lose weight. The best choices are foods low in calories but high in nutrients, giving your body all it needs to stay healthy. Eat less calories overall in your daily life. Talk to your healthcare provider about how many calories you should aim for.
  • A good place to start when trying to make healthy food choices is to eat more whole foods including fruits and vegetables. Most people don’t eat as many of these as they should. One easy way to do this is to make half of your plate fruits and vegetables.
  • At the same time eat more lean protein foods, such as fish, chicken, turkey, low fat dairy products, and beans.
  • Choose more whole grain products. These unrefined foods give your body needed nutrients and fiber.
  • Eat less sugar, white flour, soda and sweets, because these processed or refined foods tend to be high in calories and low in nutrients.
  • Choosing foods with less fat can help you lose weight. Foods high in fat are also high in calories. In fact, they have over twice the calories than foods without fat.
  • Limit fried foods, baked goods, fatty meats, butter, and other foods with fats that stay solid at room temperature. Instead, choose healthier fats like olive oil and canola oil, and foods like nuts and fish.
  • Making healthy food choices will help you to lessen the amount of calories you eat, which will help you to lose weight and feel better overall.
