Sexually transmitted chlamydial infections are transferred from one person to another by direct contact with an infected partner. Risk Factors for Neonatal ChlamydiaNeonatal chlamydia is transmitted during childbirth from an infected mother to her baby. It is a common cause of newborn conjunctivitis and chlamydial pneumonia. Most hospitals in the US are required to give eye drops to newborns to prevent conjunctivitis.
